Clinical Medical Assistant - Cardiology, Dayton, TN - Full Time
Job Summary: A certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. The medical assistant assists in the delivery of health care for patients within the ambulatory areas of Erlanger.
This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State guidelines and are trained and assigned to manage the practice's patient population. The medical assistant participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
Education- High School diploma/equivalent
- Required:
Completion of an accredited or governed program OR military equivalent training OR one year of clinical medical assistant experience within the last 5 years. - Preferred:
Previous medical assistant experience - Phlebotomy skills
License/Certification/Registration
- Required:
BLS completed prior to starting and to be maintained. - Preferred:
For medical assistants working in areas with DNV Advanced Specific Disease Certification requirements:- Ortho: 4 hours education annually
- Stroke: 1 hour education annually
- Spine: 2 hours education annually
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care in physician practice.
- Understand growth and development principles across the lifespan.
- Assess patient data, interpret information to identify individual needs.
- Provide care in accordance with unit policies and procedures.
- Check schedules and organize patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms.
- Assist patients with walking transfers and dressing.
- Collect specimens, prepare for exams, and take patient histories.
- Perform screenings per provider guidelines.
- Assist providers/nurses with procedures, charting, instruction communication, answer calls, provide pertinent information.
- Send/receive patient medical records.
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
- Schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Manage and update charts; ensure completeness and proper filing.
- Review in-basket messages.
- Set up instruments and equipment per protocols.
- Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between visits to maintain infection control.
- Run quality controls on equipment, document and record results.
- Maintain logs:
Refrigerator, Sample log, Quality control logs. - Order, sort, and stock supplies; restock rooms as needed.
- Respect and promote patient rights.
- Respond appropriately to emergency codes.
- Share problems with immediate supervisor.
- Aseptic technique and sterilization.
- Instrument wrapping/autoclaving.
- Vital signs and preparation for physical exam.
- Clinical pharmacology and drug administration.
- Prescription verification with physician order.
- Minor surgery assistance, including tray setup.
- Pre/post surgical care, dressing application, suture removal.
- Biohazard waste disposal and monitoring.
- Therapeutic modalities instruction.
- Laboratory procedures following OSHA guidelines.
- Quality control methods.
- CLIA waived testing.
- Capillary punctures/venipunctures.
- Specimen handling: urine, throat, vaginal, stool, sputum.
- Electrocardiography.
