The Estimator role at Service Electric Company collaborates with clients, vendors, subcontractors and our internal team to create estimates and assemble bids for projects within our core markets that enhance the profitability of the company and optimize our workforce. The role works with oversight from Lead and Senior Estimators.
What You’ll Do- Lead and coordinate all administrative and technical aspects of the bid development process from initial opportunity review through final submission.
- Partner with senior estimating leadership to analyze solicitation documents, define project scope, determine delivery strategy, and establish pricing assumptions.
- Evaluate contract requirements, bonding obligations, schedule constraints, labor demands, material specifications, and equipment needs to ensure accurate and competitive proposals.
- Attend pre-bid conferences and site visits to gather field intelligence, assess project conditions, and identify potential challenges that could impact cost or execution.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, develop detailed cost estimates, and compile comprehensive pricing breakdowns to support bid strategy.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure scope coverage and cost efficiency.
- Identify risk exposures and assist in developing mitigation strategies to strengthen proposal competitiveness and protect margin.
- Prepare and assemble all required bid documentation, ensuring compliance with contractual, legal, and client submission requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and practical experience.
- One to two years of estimating experience within the electrical construction industry.
- Strong analytical abilities with sound problem-solving capabilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Consistently demonstrates professional conduct while representing the company and works effectively within a diverse and collaborative environment.
