The Education Reservationist position supports the mission of the Tennessee Aquarium to connect people with nature and empower them to make informed decisions about water and wildlife. The Education Department is passionate about lifelong learning, respect for conservation, recognizing the abilities of all people and their experiences, the value of both using and contributing to research about informal education, and a collaborative, learning-based, respectful work environment.

This position will also support the Education department by overseeing the non-academic aspects of Education operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • 1. Reserves, books, confirms, and tracks all groups or individuals registering for an aquarium education program
  • 2. Coordinates bookings with staff availability and works closely with Education supervisors to ensure the success of all booked programming
  • 3. Supports the Education department with S.T.R.E.A.M. Learning Center facility management, scheduling, record keeping, office supply purchasing, and overall logistical functions.
  • 4. Fields basic inquiries related to the Education Department.
  • 5. Performs administrative tasks such as making copies, processing receipts, scanning documents, maintaining department databases, and creating reports
  • 6. Works collaboratively with Group Sales to schedule onsite education programs.
  • 7. Contributes to the implementation and improvement of the Tennessee Aquarium’s culturally responsive and equitable evaluation practices.
  • 8. Upholds and models core values and service standards in alignment with the Education Department’s and Aquarium’s missions and visions.
  • 9. Actively participates in department meetings, professional learning, events, and special projects.
  • 10. Provides support for any additional programming needs of the Education Department.
Key Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with ticketing platforms such as Ticketure preferred
  • Experience with working with children
  • Valid driver’s license required to operate Aquarium vehicles
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other departments
  • Excellent record-keeping and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills in writing, speaking, listening for understanding, and presenting content to a range of audiences
  • Passion for the environment, nature, and communication.
  • Communication, storytelling/interpretation, and public speaking skills.
  • Comfort with learning to handle a variety of Ambassador and exhibit animals, including invertebrates, fish, reptiles, amphibians, small birds, and small mammals.
  • Innovative, curious, growth mindset, and team player.
  • Resilience and ability to maintain composure and handle difficult situations with professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence to understand and respond to the needs of colleagues, guests, and animals.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate and track multiple active projects at once
  • Bilingual preferred.

Part-time, hourly ($16/hour);
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Monday through Wednesday. Weekends, holidays, and occasional evening work required.
