We have openings for Adjunct Faculty – Sociology (Social and Behavioral Sciences Division).

Responsibilities
  • Instruct assigned college classes with quality instruction and a positive learning environment. Courses may be taught in on-ground, virtual, online, or hybrid formats at several locations, including local high schools.
  • Attend to instructional practices, maintain attendance records, evaluate student performance on assignments or lab activities, and assign mid-term and final grades.
  • Utilize faculty feedback, complete mandatory training as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with and support college policies as set forth in the Strategic Plan, the College Catalog, the Adjunct Faculty Handbook, and the Employment Agreement.
Holistic Student Support
  • Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. Supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services.
  • Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility.
Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices
  • Provide support in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division that aligns with the College’s values.
  • Support the College’s goals and the Division’s efforts to utilize best practices.
  • Provide services and support for students, faculty, and staff.
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
  • Demonstrate teaching excellence by using evidence-based instructional practices that foster student learning.
  • Engage to adapt, test, and refine new pedagogical approaches that fit Chattanooga State’s campus context.
  • Structure student experiences to ensure accessibility and relevance in academic, student life and co-curricular activities.
Position Requirements
  • Master’s degree or Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credit hours in Sociology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • College Teaching Experience and/or K-12 Teaching Experience
  • Experience with alternative delivery instructional modes – hybrid, online, virtual

  • Maintains a comprehensive grasp on the particular area(s) of academic study.
  • Exhibits a commitment to promoting academic excellence in students.
  • Demonstrates a high level of self-discipline and self-motivation.

  • Demonstrates punctuality and is detailed-oriented with a demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences in verbal and written form.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, equity-minded principles and practices related to supporting students.
