Overview
The Accounting Manager will support the Controller by managing the execution of the month-end close process and overseeing day-to-day accounting activities. This role assists the Controller in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the company’s financial statements and serves as an operational resource for close coordination, review, and documentation.
Responsibilities- Manage and execute the month-end close process under the direction of the Controller, including coordination of close activities, documentation availability, and timelines
- Review balance sheet reconciliations for accuracy, completeness, and proper support prior to Controller review
- Assist in the identification of accounting issues, estimates, and judgment areas and escalate significant or complex matters to the Controller for review and approval
- Assist the team in investigating and resolving balance sheet variances and unusual activity
- Ensure consistent application of accounting policies and procedures established by the Controller
- Review work prepared by other accounting staff related to close and reconciliations
- Partner with the AP department to ensure close deliverables are timely and accurate
- Serve as an initial escalation point for routine accounting questions, escalating higher-risk or non-routine matters to the Controller
- Provide guidance and coaching to accounting staff as needed
- Coordinate accounting-related audit requests and prepare supporting schedules, with final review and communication led by the Controller
- Ensure controls are followed and documentation is audit-ready
- Support internal control improvements and process documentation
- Recommend and support improvements to accounting processes and procedures, in coordination with and approval by the Controller
- Maintain company, employee, and customers confidentiality
- Act as a fiduciary of SOAR Transportation. Through words and actions support SOAR Transportation’s mission, vision, and values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles
- Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines is essential
- High level of self-motivation and very detail orientated
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic fast paced environment with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Apply sound professional judgment to plan, prioritize, and accomplish accounting objectives
