Position: 999 Nurse / Paramedic - Emergency Operations Centre
Location: Brompton

Overview

Provide remote clinical assessments, onwards referrals or home management advice using clinical decision support software and other IT systems for patients presenting to the 999 service. Support and coach Emergency Medical Advisors (EMAs) and dispatch teams within the EOC (Ambulance resource dispatch teams). Clinically assess, prioritise and manage incidents to ensure patient safety and appropriate allocation of resources. Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals, using negotiation skills as required to coordinate the best care and facilitate referrals as appropriate.

Act as a point of clinical leadership and decision-making within the EOC, including safeguarding and capacity/consent decisions.

Training and onboarding (on the job requirements)
  • 2 weeks NHSP Training
  • 1 week CAD training (all Monday-Friday)
  • 2 weeks EMA mentoring (shift work)
  • 1 week NHSP clinician training (Monday-Friday)
  • 2 weeks mentoring (shift work)
  • The training and mentoring is full time (37.5 hours per week) whether you are applying for a full time or part time position. You will be required to attend the full 8 weeks of training; no annual leave or days off will be agreed during this time. Failure to attend will result in your employment with the trust being terminated.
  • Please note you will be required to be flexible during your mentoring period as we are unable to plan shifts ahead of time.
  • Due to licence requirements, you must pass all assessments during your training to pass the course. A resit may be offered; if unsuccessful at the resit your employment will be terminated immediately with the Trust. You will also need to be signed off as clinically safe following mentor and diamond weeks; failure to meet the required standard will result in your employment being terminated with the Trust.

  • Please note that the salary range noted on the vacancy is in line with agenda for change (AFC) pay scales. All successful applicants would be placed automatically at the bottom of the banding, unless proven, relevant NHS or equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
  • Following the revision of current national legislation (Vaccine as a Condition of Deployment), the Trust has reviewed our requirements relating to staff uptake of the SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) vaccination. Going forward, for patient facing positions, we strongly recommend that new starters will be appropriately vaccinated unless medically exempt in order to offer greater protection against exposure to the virus for front line staff.

    In line with this recommendation, if you are successful in your application for a front line post, we will seek information from you in relation to your vaccine status, including exemption status, as applicable.
  • All positions come with a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check relevant to the post. This will either be a basic, standard, or enhanced check depending on the role. The level of check will be outlined in the conditional offer letter sent to successful applicants.
