Overview
JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Boiler Chief, the CH Boiler Operator is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of boiler and refrigeration equipment and systems, and for coordinating departmental activities as required. Shift: 2-2-3 6pm to 6am. Pay: $34.68- $43.86/hr
Responsibilities- Perform all responsibilities in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures, practices, and safety rules, as well as applicable industry and regulatory guidelines.
- Respond to chemical (including ammonia) leaks or spills; serve as an active member of the plant Emergency Response Team.
- Communicate with equipment manufacturers and vendors regarding equipment issues and coordinate procurement of required parts.
- Work with various refrigerants, chemicals, solvents, paints, fuels, and lubricants.
- Ensure all systems operate safely and comply with OSHA and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Comply with and monitor operations in accordance with all 14 elements of the Process Safety Management (PSM) Program.
- Perform preventive maintenance per approved maintenance plans and work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Operate and maintain engine room and facility equipment, including ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, pumps, compressors, condensers, and electrical systems.
- Perform routine boiler water analysis and required maintenance.
- Demonstrate the ability to manipulate valves, pumps, and auxiliary machinery.
- Operate the facility fire monitoring system.
- Read and interpret equipment and system drawings.
- Maintain, adjust, and repair utility systems and facility support equipment controls.
- Monitor and maintain plant steam production, ammonia refrigeration systems, and compressed air systems.
- Document all maintenance and inspection activities in accordance with the company’s Mechanical Integrity Program.
- Follow safe work practices, complete safety audits/observations, maintain sanitary conditions, and report any conditions affecting safety or product quality.
- Support initiatives related to Lean Manufacturing, cost reduction, and mechanical downtime reduction.
- Assist with coordination of departmental activities.
- Actively participate in Emergency Response Team activities.
- Consult with management regarding boiler and refrigeration equipment and system performance.
- Contribute technical knowledge and ideas toward problem-solving involving plant utility systems.
- Train new and existing employees as required.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of industrial utility systems maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience with electrical systems, welding, and pneumatics preferred.
- Communication & Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written). Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals. Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with employees, vendors, and management.
- Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs.
- Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems involving multiple variables. Ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule-based instructions.
- Licenses, Certifications & Registrations:
Minnesota Boiler Class 1B license or higher required. Boiler, HVAC, and HAZMAT training required. Electrical license (preferred). Two-year degree in Electrical, HVAC, Ammonia Refrigeration, or Building Maintenance (preferred). Ability to obtain HAZWOPER certification.
- Other Skills & Abilities:
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. Working knowledge of CMMS software (SAP preferred). Forklift experience preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications preferred.
