This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra-and inter-departmental activities and communication. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN.

• Facilitates physician orders.
• Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to appropriate staff.
• Processes admission, transfers, discharges and schedules appointments.
• Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area.
• Completes assigned clerical responsibilities.
• Performs support functions for management staff as required.
• Maintains the flow of the department by coordinating care of the patient between other departments.
• Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of Emergency.
• Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions.
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Knowledge of basic computer functions.
• Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations.
• Ability to work autonomously and as a team.
• Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment.

• Current Healthcare Provider or CPR certification obtained within 90-days of hire.

• Completion of Health Unit Coordinator course.
• Previous HUC experience.
• Experience in hospital setting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
