Education Travel & Culture (ETC) is a non‑profit organization dedicated to fostering international understanding and goodwill through high‑quality educational and cultural exchange programs. Since 1998, ETC has connected high school students from 18 countries with American host families, providing the opportunity to study in U.S. high schools and experience cultural immersion. Based in Portland, Oregon, ETC collaborates with a nationwide network of local coordinators and volunteers to support students, host families, and schools.
As a proud member of the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) and recipient of multiple awards, ETC emphasizes safety, high standards, and enriching global experiences.
The Local Coordinator is a vital part of the ETC team, responsible for supporting and supervising international exchange students, host families, and schools within a designated area. We are seeking local coordinators in St. Cloud, MN, Madison, WI, Milwuakee, WI, and the greater Chicago area. This role involves recruiting and screening potential host families, organizing cultural activities, meeting with our students and host families each month, and addressing any concerns during the program.
The Local Coordinator ensures successful placement and cultural integration for each student and their host family while fostering positive community relationships. This is a part‑time, flexible position that allows for impactful work advancing international cultural exchange.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build meaningful relationships and manage conflicts effectively
- Organizational and administrative abilities to handle responsibilities such as documentation, scheduling, and reporting
- Proficiency in problem‑solving and creative thinking to address challenges with students, families, or schools
- Passion for education, cultural exchange, and fostering international understanding
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally as needed
- Previous experience in education, counseling, community outreach, or cultural exchange programs is an asset
- Flexibility to work non‑traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed
