Overview

The Accounting Technician prepares, maintains, reconciles, and processes accounts receivable accounting transactions and bank deposits. This position also assists with accounts payable processing.

Compensation

The intended starting wage will be $25.12 - $31.40 per hour. The full wage range for this position is $25.12 - $37.68 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • General Accounting
    • Prepare and post accounts receivable billing invoices based on requests or agreements.
    • Maintain accurate accounts receivable records and reconcile accounts as needed.
    • Review for compliance and post monthly P-Card transactions.
    • Prepare journal entries and support for accurate account posting.
    • Identify and correct discrepancies in accordance with City policies; follow up with departments as needed.
    • Serve as backup support for Accounts Payable. Enter invoices, print checks, and post payment activity. Help reconcile check and Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) registers and assist with Council payment reports.
    • Prepare routine projects and reports.
    • Provide ERP system assistance to staff.
  • Customer and Vendor Support
    • Answer questions from staff and vendors regarding accounts receivable billings and related payments.
    • Post accounts receivable vendor payment activity and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Special Assessments
    • Assist with preparing and certifying special assessment rolls.
    • Update records and respond to public requests for information.
  • Audit Preparation and Reporting Support
    • Gather information and prepare work papers for audits and ACFR.
    • Assist with internal financial reports and schedules.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Associate’s degree or higher in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Some specialized accounting or business training required.
  • Three (3) years of general accounting experience required.
  • Experience working in the public sector preferred.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Basic accounting skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
