The GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) organization develops and maintains Vanta's core offerings, supporting enterprise customers and enabling seamless integration with existing security and compliance programs to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will drive technical strategy, lead complex initiatives, and influence product and organizational decisions. Your role combines hands-on development, leadership, strategic planning, and cross-team collaboration, working closely with engineering leadership and product teams.

• Lead large technical projects for building reliable, high-performance, and customizable systems.
• Manage a portfolio of initiatives across multiple quarters for sustained impact.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure project completion without direct management responsibilities.
• Make strategic technical decisions aligning with long-term success and organizational goals.
• Promote engineering excellence by improving processes and practices.
• Guide teams through technical challenges, balancing tradeoffs and resolving conflicts.
• Address product, technical, and operational challenges with effective solutions.
• Mentor engineers and model collaborative behaviors to foster a strong engineering culture.

• Over 10 years of industry experience with expertise in areas like frontend, databases, distributed systems, APIs, or AI.
• Proven leadership in complex initiatives and organizational process improvements.
• Strong system design and software architecture skills with a focus on balancing technical and practical considerations.
• Experience building SaaS products for startup and enterprise markets.
• Expertise in creating 0→1 products and solving large-scale challenges.
• Leadership and mentorship skills to elevate team performance.
• Excellent communication skills for influencing technical decisions across the organization.
