Job Description The Loss Prevention Specialist will be responsible for reviewing and maintaining the store’s security system, conducting surveillance of all areas including perimeter checks, ensuring cycle counts are completed, presenting tips at team meetings and associate orientation, and assisting in investigations with corporate security. Travel to other store locations may be required for investigations.
Responsibilities- Use loss prevention tools to investigate internal cases
- Build and record cases to support findings and conclusions
- Conduct investigations of theft
- Audit inventory and keep a record of any shortages
- Apprehend shoplifters according to company regulations
- Review and maintain the store’s security system
- Ensure surveillance equipment stays operational
- Monitor video feed and occasionally test surveillance systems
- Conduct surveillance of all areas, including perimeter checks
- Caution against theft on the floor by observing patrons
- Partner with management to build loss prevention awareness
- Interview employees during investigations
- Travel to other store locations as required for investigations
- Present tips at team meetings and associate orientation
- Work with police and other legal entities after the investigation is finished
- Trade Certification or College Diploma
- 2-5 years experience
- First Aid and CPR Certification:
Valid certification in first aid and CPR may be beneficial, especially if the specialist is required to act as a first responder to medical situations while on duty - Strong Attention to Detail:
Ability to work with high attention to detail and a sense of urgency in conducting investigations and implementing security measures - Communication
Skills:
Capability to effectively communicate with individuals of various backgrounds, including employees, customers, and law enforcement, to gather information and convey security protocols - Microsoft Office Proficiency:
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications for report writing, documentation, and data analysis - Experience in Investigations:
Previous experience in conducting investigations, preferably in the context of loss prevention, security, or law enforcement - Loss Prevention or Policing
Experience:
Prior experience in a loss prevention role or a background in law enforcement to understand security protocols and investigative procedures - Driver's License:
Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License, which may be required for travel to other store locations for investigations - Surveillance
Experience:
Familiarity with surveillance equipment and techniques, including monitoring video feeds and testing surveillance systems - Inventory Control Knowledge:
Understanding of inventory control processes and experience in auditing inventory and recording shortages - Industry Knowledge:
Knowledge of building supplies or relevant industry products, as well as an understanding of retail loss prevention best practices
