Salary Range: $15-$17/hr

Hours per Week: 1-29

Position Summary

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting children to the Club and to other enrichment programming (as required), following a preplanned route according to schedule. The bus driver drives the bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations and assumes responsibility for the safety of the children in loading, unloading and transporting them. This position is responsible for instructing children in safety precautions and practices, monitoring student behavior and reporting to supervisor when necessary, and keeping operational records and reporting defects or problems with vehicles.

The bus driver is expected to maintain a neat environment and to perform related work as required.

This position may be supplemented with a higher pay rate and additional Club responsibilities for candidates interested in a broader role.

This position reports to the Area Director.

Position Description
  • Provide service in a friendly and supportive manner, being courteous and respectful of children at all times.
  • Transport children according to the assigned schedule and operate the buses in a safe manner in compliance with traffic regulations and organizational policies.
  • Provide transport for assigned field trips and in other instances when requested.
  • Maintain a moving violation free personal and professional driving record and be prepared to have this record checked regularly.
  • Keep vehicles in proper working order at all times, including taking buses to approved dealership or vendor to have safety, maintenance, or repairs done; maintaining proper records of all work and inspections; submitting estimates for approval, when appropriate, and having work completed on a timely basis, arranging the schedule for the least interference to Club operations.
  • Keep vehicles properly fueled at approved stations and follow organizational procedures for fuel payment. Make note of and recommend repairs or maintenance not normally scheduled but needing attention, and secure approval for all costs and work.
  • Perform a daily safety check of buses before transporting children. This includes all mechanical parts, tires, mirrors, horn, windshield wipers, brakes, doors, seats, and windows. Never use a vehicle that is not in proper working order.
  • Keep a First Aid kit and all emergency equipment and supplies on the bus in proper order. Replace, if necessary, with supervisor approval.
  • Keep buses clean both inside and out, including daily cleaning of litter, spills, and dirt. Windshields should be clean at all times, and windows should be checked daily.
  • Park in approved locations only and secure buses against theft as instructed. Report vandalism to supervisor and proper authorities immediately.
  • Document all unusual or emergent incidents, reporting immediately to the supervisor and seeking assistance. Call the Club immediately should there be a delay in returning to the facility or arriving at the designated location. In the event of an accident or breakdown, notify and seek immediate assistance from proper emergency medical units, police, or fire department first, and then notify the Club.
  • Remain flexible in regard to transport schedules to assist the Club in covering varied needs of the program and the children. Assist the Club personnel in case of any emergencies, disaster, or bad weather concerns.

  • Prior experience directing and supervising large groups of youth preferred
Education and Certifications
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
  • Long periods of sitting and driving a motor vehicle
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to remain focused in an environment with varying noise levels
  • Ability to maintain auditory supervision of youth members
