Blue Ridge Cyclery believes in training and continuing education to allow our technicians grow and advance their skills. Working alongside seasoned technicians in the same shop setting allows for even more growth. We train our techs using the latest and greatest industry standards, as well as specialized techniques that our seasoned mechanics have perfected over many years.
Our goal is to be efficient and thorough, giving our customers the very best experience, knowing they can trust that their bike is 100% safe and has received meticulous care while in our hands.
Below are essential functions for technicians, but not a strict list of the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time due to perceived business needs or changing job roles.
Primary responsibilities- Assists customers in an enthusiastic and courteous manner; provides “wow” customer service.
- Responsible for properly taking in all service work including correctly filling out service work orders, scheduling an appropriate amount of repairs and completing those repairs in a timely manner.
- Advises and assists customers with their product selection without bias.
- Communicates with bike shop manager repair and warranty part needs.
- Develops and maintains knowledge expertise of all merchandise in department to effectively assist customers with accurate information; keeps current as new product lines are introduced. Assists with bike sales and any other bike floor duties as needed.
- Maintains a clean and safe workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the bike shop manager.
- Previous bike mechanic experience and bike knowledge is a must.
- Ability to be autonomous, prioritize workday, multitask and be detail-oriented.
- Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and take direction well.
- Acceptable appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to create an excellent customer and team experience.
- A sense of urgency and ability to hustle.
- Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
This is an entry level position with minimal prior experience necessary. Strong mechanical aptitude and an eagerness to learn are required. After completion of in house training, must be able to consistently perform within Blue Ridge Cyclery’s quality standards for repairs and builds.
Level 1 responsibilities- Bike builds on bikes valued up to $1000 retail value
- Attend ongoing training sessions to advance to L2 Mechanic
- Bike Builds ranging up to $4000 retail value
- OTD’s on new bikes
- Flat fix (not tubular or tubeless)
- Basic adjustments (brakes, gears, bearings, wheel true)
- Attend ongoing training sessions to advance to L3 Mechanic
- Performing basic Tune-Ups
- Spoke Install, spoke tension adjustment, major wheel truing and dishing
- Bike builds up to $6000 retail value
- Perform advanced Tune-Ups and Overhauls
- Wheel builds
- Hydraulic brake bleeds
- Frame facing and chasing?
- Frame alignment?
- Custom bike builds (frame up)?
- Internal hub service
