Overview

The Genomics Analysis and Technology Core Specialist will support cutting-edge research by providing high-quality genomics services to internal and external investigators. The Specialist will interact with customers, lab staff and faculty on a daily basis. A gregarious nature and good communication skills are important. The role involves operating advanced genomics technologies, performing genomics assays including DNA/RNA extraction and QC, library preparation for short and long read sequencing and data reporting/troubleshooting.

The new staff will integrate into a fast-paced service lab and assist with benchmarking and new service development and optimization. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about advanced technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Operate advanced genomics technologies and perform genomics assays, including DNA/RNA extraction and quality control.
  • Prepare libraries for short and long read sequencing and report data; troubleshoot as needed.
  • Interact with customers and internal stakeholders; support bench benchmarking and new service development/optimization.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of experiments and results.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:

    Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience:

    5+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Licensure:
    None.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a core facility or service-oriented laboratory.
  • Strong background in basic and advanced molecular biology techniques, ability to follow protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, documentation and reporting skills.
  • Master’s degree in biological sciences or a related field.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Prior experience training or supporting users in laboratory techniques.
  • Experience in core molecular techniques; familiarity with: nucleic acid extraction and QC analysis; PCR, qPCR and primer design; single cell and bulk RNA-seq library preparation and analysis; short read (Illumina) and long read (Pac Bio) sequencing methods.
  • Working knowledge of lab management software (e.g., Ilab).
  • Strong interest/experience in bioinformatics tools and data analysis pipelines.
Physical Demands

This position may require extensive periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. It also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring fine finger manipulation.
