The UVA Department of Neurology is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join the General Neurology Division.
Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care, including comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal management of patients with a wide range of neurological conditions.
- Conduct patient interviews and examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and manage neurologic conditions in partnership with General Neurologists.
- Perform procedures such as Botox injections consistent with training and credentialing, as permitted by scope.
- Work collaboratively with supervising and collaborating neurologists.
- Prepare and attend to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary for professional services.
- Follow policies and procedures, including those of UVA Medical Center, CMS, and contracted payers.
- Correspond with insurance carriers for procedure approvals.
- Promote the professional practice of the advanced practice group by serving as a clinical resource to nursing, medical and allied health care practitioners.
- Seek professional development and growth opportunities, including developing and presenting educational programs.
- Maintain professional license, including independent continuing medical education.
- Exercise independent judgment in assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures commensurate with training and experience.
- Participate in eight clinical sessions of patient care per week (four hours each).
- Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, document, and communicate with the healthcare team.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic studies (e.g., x-rays, laboratory tests) in consultation with peers.
- Perform procedures within scope of practice and UVA Health System credentialing and privileges.
- Order medications, treatments and therapies in accordance with Virginia prescriptive regulations.
- Request consultation and initiate referrals to other healthcare providers, including specialists.
- Evaluate and analyze patient responses to disease processes and/or therapeutic, diagnostic interventions.
- Provide information, education and support to patients/families regarding disease processes and treatment plans, facilitating communication.
- May serve on select committees as needed.
- Experience in Neurology.
- New graduates considered.
- Education:
Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree. - Licensure:
License or license‑eligible as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia, with all required certifications and current BLS. PALS/NRP, ACLS as required. - Experience:
Department and unit specific.
Standing for prolonged periods, frequent bending/stooping, overhead reaching, repetitive computer keyboard use. Ability to lift/push/pull 50–100 lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
