The Division of Cardiology at UVA Health's Heart and Vascular Center is dedicated to enhancing care models that increase access, improve health outcomes, and support patients and families throughout Central Virginia. UVA Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) specialized in managing acute cardiology patients to join our esteemed team. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading general cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, and electrophysiologists in a dynamic care team, providing comprehensive care to patients admitted with acute cardiac conditions like acute coronary syndromes, acute heart failure, arrhythmias, pacemaker/defibrillator malfunction or infection, transcatheter valve patients and patients undergoing antiarrhythmic drug loads.
The APP is involved in procedures by performing direct current cardioversions. UVA participates in research related to cutting edge advanced diagnostic modalities and treatments in the field of cardiology and APPs play an integral role in the management of these patients.
- Full-time, clinical role based primarily in inpatient acute cardiology units
- Day shifts, three to four 12-hour shifts scheduled Monday through Sunday.
- Previous inpatient cardiology APP experience preferred.
- Previous structural heart APP experience preferred.
Graduate of an accredited Acute care nurse practitioner or Adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner or physician assistant program with a master's degree preferred.
Clinical- Provide independent and collaborative care to patients with acute cardiac diagnoses
- Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing management of patients with cardiovascular disease.
- Support the evaluation and care coordination of patients
- Perform direct current cardioversion
- Participate in pre-procedural screening, education, and post-procedural follow-up care.
- Manage common pre- and post-procedure complications like hypertension, hypotension, bleeding, angina, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias and respiratory distress
- Collaborate with cardiologists, cardiac surgery, imaging, and other subspecialty teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
- Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and procedural care.
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care.
- Ensures accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.
- Contribute to quality improvement efforts, research, and/or educational outreach within the department of cardiology.
- Contributes to ongoing efforts to enhance care models that increase access and improve outcomes
- Participates in divisional and departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Provides mentorship and education to students, and new staff members.
- Advocates for access to health care through community partnerships, outreach, and systems-based improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrates professionalism through effective communication, teamwork, and commitment to UVA Health's mission and values.
- Participates in interprofessional collaboration with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, care coordinators, social workers and learners to ensure seamless, team-based care.
