Better Living is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the financial, technology, and treasury functions for our family of companies, including:

This pivotal executive role reports directly to the President and Board. You will manage the organization’s financial health and serve as a strategic partner in our operational growth and technological evolution.
The Impact You Will MakeAs CFO, you will lead a dedicated team of nine (HR, AR, AP, IT, and Accounting) and provide leadership across several key pillars:
- Strategic Leadership:
Develop financial plans, budgets, and forecasts that align with company goals. You’ll bridge financial data and operational excellence. - Financial Integrity:
Oversee accurate, timely preparation of financial statements, manage GAAP compliance, and liaise with CPA firms and internal audits. - Treasury &
Risk Management:
Manage cash flow, financing activities, and banking relationships while mitigating operational risks through insurance and worker’s comp management. - Technology Champion:
Act as the “Super User” for our industry‑specific software (DMSi/Agility) and oversee centralized administration of our cloud‑based and internet‑based systems. - Asset Management:
Oversee capital expenditures, depreciation schedules, and physical inventory management across multiple locations.
- Proven Experience:
8–10 years of experience as a Controller or CFO. - Educational Excellence: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is required. CPA certification is strongly preferred.
- Tech‑Savvy Leadership:
Proficiency in complex ERP systems (DMSi/Agility preferred) and a forward‑thinking approach to cloud‑based technology. - Collaborative Mindset: A strategic thinker who partners with Department Managers to translate financials into actionable improvements.
- Stability & Scope:
Oversee a diverse portfolio of successful building and manufacturing companies. - Leadership:
Manage and mentor a talented team of nine professionals. - Local Impact:
This is a 100% in‑office position located in beautiful Charlottesville, VA, offering the chance to be deeply rooted in our operations and community. The Better Living Foundation has contributed over $9.2 million to local charities and organizations since 1985.
