The Chief Technology Officer leads the Division’s technology and learning technology systems, overseeing computer networks, connections to the global internet, and the integration of educational technology across classrooms, libraries/media centers, and district offices. The CTO provides leadership in identifying, assessing, and managing technology needs for the school system, reports to the Superintendent, and collaborates with principals and staff to enhance teaching and learning.
EssentialFunctions
- Provide leadership in all aspects of technology for the school system.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent and Cabinet to make informed decisions.
- Collaborate with principals and school staff to make informed decisions.
- Lead division initiatives, collaborating across departments and functional areas that support adoption and implementation of technology in all aspects of school business, including those that improve teaching and learning and promote 21st‑century skills.
- Create and support cross‑functional teams for needs assessment, decision‑making, technology support, professional development and other aspects of the district technology program.
- Manage and direct staff in support of all technology applications to help the division meet strategic plan goals.
- Supervise or coordinate the skills development of all employees in the operation of technology; build awareness among employees of available resources and the role of technology in the instructional process.
- Develop and coordinate a broad range of technology‑based resources, maximizing their availability and use.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Exceptional oral and written communication skills; strong leadership, analytical and problem‑solving skills; comprehensive instructional technology experience; comprehensive knowledge of professional development; proven expertise in planning and implementing instructional technology systems; ability to coordinate technology systems analysis and needs assessments; ability to develop effective plans to meet instructional technology needs; technical expertise with computer systems and complex networking equipment; eagerness to learn and apply new technologies;
ability to write clear and concise reports; ability to present technical information to decision‑makers.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree. Demonstrated professional experience in a technology leadership role. At least four years of experience in K–12 education preferred. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) certification or equivalent required or must be attained within one year of hire.
Special requirement:
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Salary$125,195 to $162,760 per year
