Department Overview
The University of Virginia's Enrollment division supports students and families from first contact through graduation and beyond. Enrollment includes five constituent units:
Advise
VA, Commonwealth Partnerships, Office of Undergraduate Admission, Office of the University Registrar, and Student Financial Services. Together, these teams work collaboratively to strengthen student success, access, excellence, and community across the Commonwealth.
The University of Virginia seeks applications for a Data Analyst / Senior Data Analyst to support evidence-based decision-making across Enrollment. This role is an excellent opportunity for an analytics professional with a strong record of helping colleagues ask meaningful questions, interpret evidence, and use insights to improve processes, decisions, and services for students and families.
Reporting to the Director of Enrollment Intelligence and Analytics
, this position develops and maintains accessible dashboards, ensures high-quality reporting tools, and promotes accurate, consistent use of data across Enrollment. The successful candidate will be a curious, collaborative, and detail-oriented professional who values clarity, accuracy, service, and partnership.
Build, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards and other reporting tools used across Enrollment
Automate recurring reporting tasks and improve consistency of routine data processes
Manage recurring and ad hoc requests for data and reports from Enrollment units
Extract, prepare, validate, and analyze data from University Business Intelligence (UBI),
Slate
, Salesforce
, and other university systemsMaintain documentation, version control, and quality review procedures for dashboards and reports
Ensure data accuracy, alignment, and clear metric definitions across reporting assets
Collaborate with analysts and report developers across Enrollment to improve visualizations and ensure consistent reporting practices
Support broader data governance efforts through well-documented, standardized reporting processes
Designing more advanced reporting, automation, and analytical solutions
Applying deeper technical expertise (e.g., predictive analytics, Python, SQL)
Working with greater independence on complex analytical initiatives
Education: Bachelor's degree in data science, analytics, information systems, or a related field
Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant experience
Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Experience with
Power BI and ExcelProficiency with Python, R, SQL
, or another programming languageExperience working with UBI, Slate, Salesforce
, or similar enterprise systemsExperience in higher education or institutional analytics environments
Curiosity and the ability to help colleagues understand and apply evidence in their work
Strong analytical and technical skills in data preparation, reporting, and dashboard development
Collaborative working style with the ability to build constructive relationships across departments
High attention to detail, accuracy, and clarity in reporting
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
