Job Summary
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Full Time New Grad Registered Nurse for our Emergency Department in Charlottesville, VA.
Hours & Call- 3 x 12‑hour shift position from 7 pm to 7 am with required call.
- Rotation or Day shift hours may be required for training.
- Full‑time nurses have 16 hours of required call per 6 weeks.
- New Grad Registered Nurses can expect 18‑week orientation on the unit.
- Sign‑on bonus up to $7,500 available for qualified new‑grad candidates.
The Main ED at SMJH sees between 70 and 100 patients per day. This well‑supported department is centered around teamwork and a patient‑first mindset. Registered Nursing (RN) responsibilities include performing competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical‑thinking model known as the nursing process. Standards of practice cover assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care‑teaching and health promotion, and evaluation. Standards of professional performance include ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
- Students in process of obtaining a degree in Registered Nursing
- Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Bachelor of Science Nursing – BSN or MSN (preferred)
- Students in process of obtaining an RN License
- Registered nursing License (required)
- ACLS required prior to completion of orientation
- PALS required prior to completion of orientation
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- None required
- Critical care experience in hospital preferred or previous ED Tech experience
- Capstone in Emergency Department (preferred)
- Manages complex cases in fast‑paced environments
- Communication with patients and providers
