THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR CURRENTLY VIRGINIA DCJS CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS ONLY

Pay will be between $26.45 to $47.77 hourly ($55,016.00 - $99,365.02 annually), depending on sworn law enforcement experience. Officers are also eligible to receive an education stipend for completed Associate Degree ($1,000 per year) or Bachelor's Degree ($2,000 per year). Charlottesville Police Department is seeking VIRGINIA DCJS CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICERS to enforce laws fairly and impartially, partner with the community, and protect property and rights. Duties include routine patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, responding to calls, arresting suspects, and reporting. Work involves personal risk and requires judgment in emergencies, under supervision of a Police Sergeant.

Preferred: Higher education, law enforcement or military experience, proficiency in a foreign language, or internships. Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of law enforcement practices, laws, geography, departmental rules, and the ability to communicate effectively, exercise judgment, and maintain integrity. This is a safety-sensitive position with mandatory drug testing. Work hours include nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency calls. The environment is mostly outdoors, with physical demands including extensive walking, running, and operating vehicles.
