Senior Project Engineer​/Manager

Shimp Engineering is a full‑service design, planning, and engineering firm based in Charlottesville, Virginia. We provide these services to a diverse client base throughout Central Virginia. We are growing and looking for an experienced engineering professional to take on a leadership role within our team.

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer/Manager who will serve as a key technical leader and client‑facing representative of the firm. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering, with demonstrated ability to manage projects and mentor junior staff in the following areas:

• Infrastructure Design, including Water, Sewer, and Road Construction
• Land Development Planning
• Regulatory Compliance and Site Analysis
• Documentation, Reporting, and Client Communication

• Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously from concept through completion, ensuring delivery on schedule and within budget
• Serve as the primary client contact
  , building and maintaining strong client relationships through clear, professional communication
• Mentor and develop entry‑level and mid‑level staff, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth
• Oversee and review engineering designs, drawings, and specifications prepared by project team members to ensure quality and accuracy
• Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to land use, zoning, environmental impact, and building codes
• Conduct and oversee site feasibility studies and analysis, evaluating topography, soil composition, drainage, and environmental impact
• Prepare and review engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and documentation required for regulatory approvals and project records
• Collaborate with planners, surveyors, and municipal stakeholders to advance project goals
• Contribute to business development efforts including proposals, client meetings, and community engagement

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required, or actively pursuing licensure
• 5+ years of civil engineering experience, with a focus on land development and infrastructure
• Proven ability to manage projects and lead a team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software
• Familiarity with Virginia regulatory requirements preferred
