Position Overview
Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two‑year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia. The Workforce Services division is seeking adjunct instructors to support a variety of workforce training and credentialing programs. Position responsibilities include delivering effective didactic and skills instruction to adult learners, maintaining a positive and safe learning environment, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures, serving as a role model, and engaging in professional development.
Responsibilities also entail conducting review, remediation, and office hour sessions; maintaining student performance records; collaborating on curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment; responding to inquiries; reporting incidents; and assisting with student recruitment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide effective instruction for Nurse Aide/Medication Aide courses.
- Maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Serve as a role model for student success.
- Conduct review, remediation and office hour sessions.
- Maintain student participation and performance records.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff on curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment.
- Respond to student, staff and partner inquiries in a timely manner.
- Report incidents and assist with professional development and partner onboarding requirements.
- Maintain professional competence and required certifications/licensure.
Qualifications
- Current unrestricted RN or LPN license (Virginia or multistate compact).
- Two years of experience as a registered nurse and at least one year of direct client care or supervisory experience in long‑term care services.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Commitment to community college philosophy and student success.
- Current AHA‑BLS CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Nursing.
- Recent experience teaching Nurse Aide courses and preparing students for state exams.
- Satisfactory completion of a course in teaching adults.
- Experience teaching adult learners or in a community college.
- Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses.
- Experience using Canvas or a similar learning management system.
- Meeting VBON qualifications as a primary instructor: two years’ experience as a RN within the past five years.
Work Schedule and Location
Courses may be offered day, evening, weekend, and at various locations within Albemarle County. This is an on‑campus position (not remote). The position may also require additional duties as assigned, including emergency support per Governor’s declaration.
Travel
Required travel to and from any college campus/site location as assigned.
