Position: Pathways Adviser (Staff Wage)

The University of Virginia launched the Advise

VA program in the fall of 2005 as a public service program to address the widening gap in college access for low income and first‑generation students. Our mission is to expand access to high‑quality postsecondary opportunities for students across Virginia. Advise

VA is an Ameri Corps program.

Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑on‑one admissions and financial aid advice to any student or family from your assigned school, encouraging a broad range of postsecondary choices and guiding students through the financial aid process.
  • Organize group events that encourage students and their families to consider, plan for, and apply to various postsecondary opportunities, including visiting classrooms, holding workshops, and partnering with local community groups.
  • Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in each assigned school, assessing needs and adapting programs and participating in extra‑curricular activities.
  • Represent the Ameri Corps program by logging hours accurately in the OnCorps online reporting system, adhering to all guidelines, and displaying the Ameri Corps logo.
  • Effectively utilize tools and resources to pursue continuous improvement, including reporting key progress indicators and using data‑informed approaches.
  • Maintain expertise in postsecondary planning by participating in pre‑service and in‑service training and pursuing professional development opportunities.
Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree obtained between 2023 and 2026
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to various locations across the Commonwealth
  • Ability and willingness to work hours that coincide with a typical school day for educators, as well as some night and weekend hours
Annual Compensation
  • Bi‑weekly pay of $1,560 – $1,640 ($39,000 – $41,000 annual rate, pending final budget approvals)
  • $7,395 Segal Education Award (approximate)
  • $5,169 Health Insurance included (approximate)

$51,564 – 53,564 Total compensation package*

* Total compensation package is determined by the start date. Pathways advisers who begin on the scheduled start date in July will receive 25 bi‑weekly payments totaling $39,000 – $41,000. Pathways advisers who begin later in the program year will receive bi‑weekly payments of the same amount over fewer pay periods, respectively.
