Overview
The Department of Pathology, at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, seeks applicants for a faculty position in our Anatomical Pathology Division and Dermatopathology Section, open to all ranks. Dermatopathology board certification or board eligibility is required. Specialty interest in another area of surgical pathology can be accommodated. Rank and tenure status are dependent on qualifications, experience and scholarly achievement.
The Dermatopathology service overviews approximately 13,000 accessions per year, including over 9,000 internal specimens, more than 130 direct immunofluorescence specimens (DIF), and more than 3,000 consultations. Complex molecular testing is available: including next generation sequencing, Onco Scan chromosomal microarray, and a variety of other techniques.
Participation in the teaching of pathology and dermatology residents and fellows is required. Our consultation program has subspecialty interest in cutaneous lymphoma, melanocytic pathology, pediatric dermatopathology, and adnexal tumors. Multiple interdisciplinary conferences include a weekly melanoma and cutaneous oncology tumor board, dermatology grand rounds, and a cutaneous lymphoma conference.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings and programs.
