Overview
The incumbent operates a forklift to transport compressed bales of cardboard, magazines, newspapers, books and other materials compressed by a baling machine. The incumbent also receives and unloads incoming vendor shipments and assists with disposal of waste materials. This position requires a valid D.C. or State driver's license and a Certificate as a Powered Industrial Truck Operator to operate the Forklift in accordance with 29 CFR (l) (6).
Responsibilities- Receive and unload delivery trucks and other designated conveyors; open containers and check materials received against invoice report or receipt document, comparing titles, stock numbers, register numbers and quantities.
- Assemble material for disbursement from selected bulk storage areas and ensure correctness of register numbers, stock numbers, quantity, titles and classification of items ordered for shipment.
- Receive materials and supplies, personally store and monitor the receipt of supplies and materials purchased and stored for trades and crafts shops.
- Coordinate the movement of incoming and outgoing supplies and placement of materials within docking and storage areas.
- Operate industrial cleaning tools and equipment to vacuum rugs, clean floors, baseboards and perform routine cleaning tasks as required.
- Load, transport, unload and assemble tools, parts and materials; sort and dispose of recyclable materials and separate hazardous materials for disposal.
- Inspect forklift equipment before operating to confirm it is in safe operating condition and operate a forklift to transport and handle materials (e.g., compressed bales of cardboard, magazines, newspapers, books, bottles, cans, and other recyclable materials).
- Unload and uncrate delivered construction-related items and other materials as needed.
- Perform data entry to update inventory records and maintain an accurate on-hand and issued stock inventory.
- Operate a forklift with a load capacity greater than 10,000 pounds and a height capacity of 168 inches or more; coordinate movement of supplies within docking and storage areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
