Seasonal Motor Vehicle Operator

Responsibilities

Operates a variety of motor vehicles in support of the maintenance and repair of roadsides including roads, culverts, bridges, guardrails, etc. Operates diesel and gasoline powered motor vehicles and heavy equipment which typically have a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds; vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes. Operates vehicles, including dump trucks and trash truck, in all kinds of weather over rough terrain, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic.

Duties include crack sealing, asphalt patching, refuse/recycling collection, transporting material, and loading trucks with front end loader and/or backhoe. Operates tractors with attached flail and sickle bar mowers to cut grass and brush on shoulders, ditches, and cut banks alongside park roads. Performs operator maintenance on all vehicles operated according to manufacturer and park standards. Completes minor repairs and preventive maintenance of equipment.

Performs manual labor tasks such as digging, raking, cleaning drainage ditches, picking up litter, etc.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Driver's License:
You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

Commercial Driver's License:
You must possess and maintain a current Class A, Type A (or higher) Commercial Driver's License. Uniform:
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Government housing may be available.
