Salary & StatusHourly: $20.00 – $23.54. Non‑exempt (hourly). Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience and internal equity.
Division & Program AreasServices for Adults (SFA) is part of the Department of Child, Family, & Adult Services. The division manages four main program areas:
Adult Social Work Services, Community Social Work, Senior Citizens Nutrition Program, and the Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS).
Part‑time Commercial Driver for the Mecklenburg Transportation System (MTS). Provide safe, efficient human service and general public transportation of passengers within Charlotte/Mecklenburg County.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a commercial vehicle following traffic laws, regulations, and MTS policies.
- Maintain accurate trip records and document fares.
- Communicate with dispatch via radio and read GPS/maps.
- Assist passengers during boarding, in‑transit, and de‑boarding.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections, fuel checks, and keep the vehicle clean.
- Respond to emergency needs, including transporting individuals to shelter.
- One year of commercial vehicle driving experience or a completed Central Piedmont Community College CDL program.
- Acceptable driving record per county standards.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina driver’s license and county driving privileges.
- Class A or B CDL with endorsements: H (Hazardous Materials), N (Tank Vehicle), P (Passenger Transport), S (School Bus), T (Double/Triples), X (Tanker/Hazardous Materials).
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (oral and written).
- In‑depth knowledge of traffic laws and vehicle operation.
- Excellent customer relations, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong safety awareness and the ability to identify and correct hazardous conditions.
- Technical proficiency and the ability to stay current with industry trends.
- Basic computer skills (paper, computer, GPS).
Must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, talking, hearing. Must be able to push and pull 500 lbs and lift a minimum of 40 lbs. The vehicle operator must be physically capable of assisting persons with disabilities.
