C. Smith University, you’ll help shape a competitive, cohesive program that reflects JCSU’s values: toughness, unity, and academic excellence. You’ll have a real voice in daily practice design, scouting and game planning, recruiting strategy, and culture‑building. You’ll Do Coaching & Player Development
- Provide on‑court instruction; assist with practice planning, weekly scouts, game‑day prep, and in‑game adjustments.
- Lead out‑of‑season workouts and individualized development plans.
- Develop and implement academic success initiatives; support retention and progress toward degree.
- Participate in on‑call rotations for room/curfew checks and student support.
- Manage recruiting activities (on/off campus), official visits, and student‑athlete hosts; build relationships with prospects, families, and high school/club coaches.
- Coordinate team travel and lodging (flights, hotels, buses, rental cars).
- Organize game‑day locker room, attire, equipment readiness, and appearance standards.
- Supervise practice players and team managers; maintain equipment in good working order.
- Review game film; prepare scouting reports; track team and player performance metrics; maintain accurate statistics and records.
- Plan team activities, bonding, community service, and sponsorship engagement; support public relations and fundraising as needed.
- Communicate regular updates to the Head Coach on performance, schedules, and operations.
- Collaborate with University Communications & Marketing and Athletics to manage the team’s social media presence.
- Oversee graphics, photos, and video content; maintain photo/video libraries (department drives/Google Drive).
- Plan and post promotions, create event pages, run live/social engagement during events, and review analytics to improve reach and impact.
- Cross‑promote campus events in partnership with University Communications & Marketing.
- Maintain current knowledge of and full compliance with NCAA, CIAA, and JCSU rules, policies, and procedures.

Bachelor’s degree; collegiate coaching and/or playing experience is required. The successful candidates must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; the ability to recruit prospective student athletes; proficiency and thorough knowledge of the game of basketball; a commitment to excellence, sensitivity to cultural differences and a commitment to the mission and values of Johnson
C. Smith University and the Department of Athletics. The position requires significant travel. Proficiency with computer applications, general office software and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations required. CPR Certification is required within 30 days of hire.
