Overview
We are seeking a Software Engineer 3 to join a highly collaborative engineering team within a large, regulated energy environment. This role focuses on building application-level APIs and interfaces that support data platform and data fabric initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strong Java backend engineer with experience in event-driven systems and AWS
, who enjoys working close to the data without being a data analyst.
This is a long-term contract (2+ years) with a hybrid schedule.
Core Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain backend APIs supporting data platform and data fabric initiatives.
- Develop Java-based services focused on application-level data access and integration.
- Build interfaces that interact with data stored in relational and cloud-native data platforms.
- Work with event-driven technologies to support asynchronous and streaming workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate backend services with cloud data infrastructure.
- Support transitions to modern data technologies such as object storage and cloud data warehouses
. - Maintain flexibility to contribute to AWS Glue and Lambda-based workflows as needed.
- Ensure solutions align with security, reliability, and compliance requirements typical of regulated environments.
- Strong experience building backend APIs and application-level services.
- Proficiency in Java
. - Experience with event-driven or messaging technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, Rabbit
MQ, or other message queue systems
. - Hands-on experience with AWS
, including building and operating cloud-based services. - Ability to work with Postgres or PostgreSQL databases at the application level.
- Comfort working in environments with evolving technologies and requirements.
- Experience building or interacting with data fabric or data platform interfaces
. - Familiarity with Iceberg, S3, or Redshift
. - Experience with AWS Glue and AWS Lambda
. - Ability to create or work with database objects (tables, schemas), though not required.
- Background working in highly regulated or compliance-driven environments
. - Hybrid schedule (onsite and remote mix).
- Structured workweek with four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday).
