Summary

Pipelayers for Fessler & Bowman will perform a variety of tasks that assist in the completion of projects. It is crucial to have the skills necessary to work as a valued team member for F&B to provide the type of service our customers have come to expect. This position requires the employee to satisfactorily perform the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Aid in installation of storm drain, water, & utility lines.
  • Load & unload tools.
  • Hook pipe to machine using pipe choker.
  • Assist in setting concrete boxes & manholes. Hooking chains to boxes and guiding structures to line & grade.
  • Mortar opening around pipe in structures.
  • Mortar & brick frame & grates to grade on structures.
  • Set frames & grates on structures.
  • Remove debris from structures & pour concrete inverts.
  • Maintain safe work practices & properly wear PPE.
  • Use cut off saws & measuring tools to cut pipe length.
  • Operate walk behind & remote compaction tools.
  • Pot hole utilities by means of shovels & post hole diggers.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience with installation of either waterline, storm sewer and/or sanitary sewer.
  • Knowledge of elevations, reading and interpreting utility plans.
  • Understanding trench safety.
  • Experience setting up and using pipe lasers, sight transits and/or roto lasers as well as other required tools needed for the specific work being performed.
  • Knowledge of testing procedures for all types of utilities.
  • Working in deep excavations at times as well as occasional harsh weather conditions.
  • Ability to look and plan ahead to maintain constant production of crew.
  • Must be able to understand English.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
Travel

Travel may be required for this position as the employee must be willing to travel to surrounding job sites. F&B will compensate a per diem for travel and overnight stay if applicable.

Work Environment

As a pipelayer, you will be subject to various work environments. Environments include but are not limited to the following: high/low temperatures, areas close to traffic, loud and frequent noises, confined spaces, heights, and indoor/outdoor settings.
