Physical Security Director - Charlotte, NC

The Physical Security Director implements overall security strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the physical safety of all visitors, teammates, or clients to the organization's facilities and the security of property and assets. The role leads the Physical Security Professional team, establishing direction, goals, and strategies for life safety and physical security technology programs such as training, awareness, emergency management, security officer management, intrusion alarms, access control, video surveillance, and visitor management.

** This role is on-site 5 days a week**.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the enterprise-wide physical security program, including crime prevention and post-incident risk review and remediation for all Truist facilities.
  • Direct long‑range planning to ensure development of personnel, equipment, systems, and resources in line with business unit and corporate goals.
  • Lead deployment of humanitarian aid for teammates and communities in support of Truist's values.
  • Oversee deployment of resources and teammates in support of Physical Security Incident playbook in response to major or crisis-type incidents.
  • Manage a team of direct reports focused on electronic security, physical security, and life safety operations.
  • Manage business partnerships with cross‑functional internal departments and external security resources, building trust and mutual respect at all levels.
  • Support and participate in the corporate CERT program during critical events to ensure safety and security of teammates and bank assets.
  • Mentor teammates to assist with career goals, training, development, and job satisfaction.
  • Lead a team on security risk evaluations to identify vulnerabilities and implement measures through internal and external partners to mitigate loss and liability.
  • Provide direction on physical security policy, procedures, equipment design, integration, and compliance.
  • Oversee successful implementation of security deliverables in accordance with company, industry standards and applicable laws.
  • Make decisions about priorities and adapt plans to meet service, operational, and budget challenges.
  • Interpret internal and external business challenges and implement best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
  • Act as subject matter expert to auditors and regulators for physical security processes and standards.
  • Lead redesign and modernization of the physical security program, ensuring alignment with Truist’s risk management and compliance standards.
  • Launch and oversee a preventive risk assessment program, including the use of risk assessment software and delivery of actionable risk reports and mitigation plans.
  • Direct comprehensive security audits, penetration tests, and scenario-based drills to proactively identify and address vulnerabilities.
  • Establish and manage a risk remediation program, tracking all identified risks to resolution, assigning ownership, and reporting progress to leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement through regular testing, functional exercises, and measurement of compliance and resilience metrics.
  • Oversee the selection and implementation of technology solutions for risk assessment and remediation tracking.
  • Support the development and deployment of regional security specialists as part of the staffing strategy.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Criminal Justice or equivalent education and related training or experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience in security operations, security consulting, facility project coordination, law enforcement with emphasis on crime prevention or comparable work experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in a management role with direct report supervision responsibilities.
  • Industry certifications including at least one of: ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) or ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
  • Ability to manage a team, including identifying and recruiting talent, managing performance, and making decisions about resource allocation.
