The Quality Control Manager provides leadership, coordination, guidance, and technical expertise in all areas of quality. The QCM is responsible for the overall daily operations of quality. This position develops and administers quality related policies, procedures, and initiatives to ensure that all quality policies and practices are followed consistently on the project. The QCM is responsible for the overall daily operations of quality.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and coordination of quality activities across the project.
- Develop and administer quality-related policies, procedures, techniques, and initiatives to ensure consistency with project quality requirements.
- Work with Project Manager, Superintendents, and subcontractors to develop processes and procedures that achieve 100% compliant work that exceeds expectations.
- Collaborate among project team and subcontractors and act as an advocate for the company by promoting quality as a core value.
- Maintain active relationships with engineers, consultants, and industry associations.
- Assist teams with developing a project-specific quality management plan and follow up to ensure it is being followed.
- Build and maintain system templates for various DFOW activities and prepare DFOW for project as required in the Quality Management Plan.
- Participate in project meetings; conduct site visits and inspections of work in place; assist teams with plan and constructability reviews.
- Read and understand specifications, reference codes and standards; review and interpret contract drawings.
- Provide training and coaching to identify project risks related to quality and assist teams with risk prevention planning and follow-up.
- Work with the Quality and Construction Science Department to utilize advancements in technology to support operational excellence and reduce risk.
- Act independently as CQCM while coordinating all QC functions so as not to delay construction scheduling.
- Determine, communicate, and document deficiencies and ensure they are corrected in a timely manner (NCR Log); maintain current records confirming quality control activities and tests performed.
- Identify and resolve problems promptly, analyze information, and develop alternative solutions; participate in group problem-solving as needed.
- Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications and contract requirements.
- Initiate Three Phase Inspection process; conduct daily observations to ensure all phases are implemented and document results; resolve any differences.
- Chair preparatory meetings and document weekly QC meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Verify and document that project matters conform to approved submittals and are handled and stored appropriately for use.
- Oversee daily and weekly QC/QA reports reinforcing conformance with established standards.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or related area.
- Minimum of 6 years of construction experience as a Quality Control Manager.
- In-depth knowledge of Construction Standards and Best Practices; working knowledge of the International Building Code; experience with diverse project types.
- Ability to delegate tasks, supervise performance, and have excellent analytical skills; very organized and systematic in thinking and processes.
- Experience working with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors to develop processes and procedures that ensure compliant work.
- Read and interpret specifications, reference codes, standards, and contract drawings; capable of identifying project risks related to quality.
- Willingness to travel to multiple sites; able to supervise a small team; experience with vertical construction (e.g., mid-rise, high-rise, data center, or distribution center) preferred.
Must-Haves
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Construction Management, Engineering
- At least 6 years experience as a Quality Control Manager
- Commercial construction (manufacturing) experience; capable of handling projects worth a minimum of $20M
- Focused on vertical construction; experience with large vertical projects is a plus
- Supervised a small team; willingness to travel to multiple sites
NO Oil refinery or RESIDENTIAL construction experience
