The department serves a population exceeding one million residents and serves the City of Charlotte, six towns, and the unincorporated areas of the county covering 523 square miles. Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is excited to add a Sr Maintenance & Operations Technician to their Park Operations team. This full‑time position will oversee 20+ community gardens across Mecklenburg County. This will include but is not limited to maintenance and upkeep of the gardens, small maintenance repair projects within the grounds, and administrative duties related to the gardens. The incumbent will also lead and work with community volunteers as well as part‐time staff.

The selected candidate will be a key member of our staff in ensuring our community gardens remain premier sites for our visitors and community. The schedule for this position may include weekends based on business needs.

• Experience managing a public garden
• Substantial plant knowledge
• Valid Pesticide Applicator’s License

• Perform setup, breakdown and cleaning during events
• Perform routine and non‑routine cleaning services to restrooms and rental facilities
• Remove limbs and debris; blow leaves off sidewalks and greenways; clear mud and water from greenway tunnels after storms; mow and trim ball fields
• Assist in manual labor such as brick laying, pipe laying, painting, carpentry and other construction tasks
• Layout measurements and line ball fields and assist in performing field maintenance
• Operate power mowers, chainsaws, brush cutter, edger and clippers, power washers, ATVs, litter vacuum, and other equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, roadside maintenance, and right‑of‑way cleaning
• Open park gates and remove trash
• Assist repair technicians in duties
• May operate light equipment such as utility vehicles, tractors, mowers and dump trucks
• May serve as a lead on a small work crew, community service workers, volunteers and/or part‑timers
• May receive, sort, and package materials

Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
