Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department (MCPRD) hosts many community events each year, including Hummingbird Festival, The Senior Games and Festival in the Park. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join our team. This full-time position will be based in the Central Region and will perform day-to-day maintenance activities in any of the maintenance areas, including grounds maintenance and landscaping within the park. The incumbent will also be responsible for upkeep of park facilities ensuring that they remain optimal sites for community events and recreation.

Typical schedule will primarily consist of weekdays with occasional weekends and holidays depending on business need.

The Central Region Maintenance & Operations Assistants will cover parks located in Central Charlotte, or Uptown Charlotte. Parks in the Central Region include First Ward Park, Romare Bearden Park, and Freedom Park, which host many large-scale community events each year.

• Grounds maintenance experience

• Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
• Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects
• Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets
• Perform general custodial work
• Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
• Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches

• Experience: No experience required
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted?: N/A
• Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges

  • Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
  • Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
