POSITION SUMMARY

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is looking for a Grounds Maintenance & Operations Assistant to join our team! This full-time position will be based in our Central Region and will perform day-to-day maintenance activities in any of the maintenance areas, including but not limited to grounds maintenance and landscaping within the park. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for upkeep of our park facilities ensuring that they remain optimal sites for community events and recreation.

Typical schedule will primarily consist of weekdays with occasional weekends and holidays depending on business need.

Region Specific Information:
The Central Region Maintenance & Operations Assistants will cover parks located in Central Charlotte, or Uptown area of Charlotte. A few of the parks within the Central Region are First Ward Park, Romare Bearden Park, and Freedom Park. These venues host many large-scale community events each year.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Grounds maintenance experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans

* Move and aid in moving furniture or equipment and large and bulky objects

* Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs, and unstopping toilets

* Perform general custodial work

* Perform general grounds keeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass

* Perform general laborer-type work such as digging ditches
