Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department (MCPRD) offers opportunities to build a career with support, inclusive culture and technology. This position supports MCPRD programming across Park & Recreation, including the Therapeutic & Inclusive Recreation Services (TIRS) Division. This temporary, PRN role will work with internal and external customers on medication administration, illness management and related medical needs for program participants. The incumbent will provide support and education for staff on medical needs, medication administration and care plans.
Anticipated schedule is approximately 20 hours per week, with variability based on business and care needs.

Position SummaryMecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department is excited to add a Nurse to support our programming across Park & Recreation (including the TIRS Division). This temporary position will work with internal and external customers on medication administration, illness management, education, and managing other medical needs for our program participants. The incumbent will also provide support and education/training for staff on medical needs, medication administration and care plans.
This position will work on a PRN basis with schedule dependent on business and care needs. We anticipate the selected candidates will work approximately 20 hours per week, but this could vary.
- Monitor, record, and report symptoms, medical information, vital signs, or changes in patients' conditions.
- Perform administrative duties as needed and maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
- Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on health topics and develop health improvement programs.
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
- Assess needs of individuals, families, or communities to identify health or safety problems.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient conditions.
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by responses and conditions.
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement or evaluate patient care plans.
- Provide health care, first aid, specified laboratory tests, physical examinations, immunizations, or related assistance in various locations.
- Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, or supplies and maintain stock.
- Consult with institutions or associations regarding nursing-related issues.
- Refer patients to specialized health resources or community agencies.
- Document patient history and related findings with necessary coding when applicable.
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
- Administer local, inhalation, intravenous, or other anesthetics as applicable.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN). Will consider a recent RN BSN graduate with three (3) years of health department work experience as an LPN.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited college. If a higher degree in Nursing is conferred without a BSN, employment may be possible with the stipulation that the incumbent completes coursework and exams for Principles and Practices of Public Health Nursing within one year.

Licenses/Certifications: Current RN license in North Carolina or a Nurse Licensure Compact state;
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) certification valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of certification is required and may be supported by employment funds. Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.

Knowledge: Applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA, NC Nurse Practice Act); nursing techniques and assessment skills; medical and legal terminology; public health principles; anatomy and physiology; infection control practices.
