American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Details- Work setting is a large 874-licensed-bed Level I Trauma teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Assigned to the Acute Decompression and Transition Unit (ADTU), which consists of one main unit (6CD, 19 beds) and four satellite units (3K, 5A, 3L, 1T) totaling 53 beds focused on decompressing the ED and other specialty areas
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with common diagnoses such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF, PE, DVT, CVA, GI bleeds, pneumothorax, and trauma-related injuries
- RN patient ratios vary by unit: 6CD is 1:5–6 (acuity-dependent, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8); satellite units (3K, 5A, 3L, 1T) are 1:4
- Nurses are responsible for monitoring telemetry on their assigned unit; there is no dedicated tele tech, and each primary nurse must complete a rhythm interpretation each shift
- EMR is Epic; experience is required
- IV pumps are Alaris, medication dispensing via Omnicell, and monitoring via Philips
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating is required across all facilities within the assigned regional network (Region 1, 2, or
3) per scope of practice — candidates unwilling to float should not apply - Schedules are issued on a 6-week cycle
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required
- Required skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- Epic EMR experience required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the assigned home unit
- Travelers will be expected to work 75% of holidays
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any time off that results in unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
- Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Department support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on 6CD), a free charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, 24/7 RT, 24/7 hospitalist and intensivist coverage, and resource nurses on long-term contracts
- Required scrub color is navy blue
- Free parking is available on site
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
