The Pediatric Gastroenterology (GI) team at Carolinas Medical Center is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a top destination for exceptional pediatric GI services. We care for patients from newborn through 18 years of age, managing conditions including constipation, reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, motility disorders, liver disease, and nutritional challenges such as TPN and short‑gut syndrome.
About the PositionThe Liver Nurse Navigator works directly in clinic as part of a multidisciplinary team, performing hands‑on assessments such as Fibro Scan testing and delivering patient and family education.
Responsibilities- Triage of acutely ill patients
- Monitoring laboratory results
- Coordinating care plans, including medications, referrals, and procedures such as liver biopsies
- Supporting the complex needs of children both before and after liver transplant (in coordination with our transplant navigators)
- Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the teammate practices
- Minimum of two years of RN experience in an acute care setting
- BSN Degree Required / MSN Preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Certification in the appropriate specialized field within 2 years of being in the position required
- Coordinate the patient’s care to increase the efficiency and quality of care delivered, from diagnosis through their care journey
- Act as a patient advocate and provide highly supportive, personal care; serve as a liaison to ensure patients and families receive resources and services as needed
