Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a minimum of 18 months’ Med/Tele RN experience and valid NC or compact state licensure.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital environment with assignments spanning various Med/Surg Tele units including overflow, ortho-surgical, medical telemetry, surgical telemetry, cardiac telemetry, and detox
- Patient populations include CHF, COPD, chest pain, stroke symptoms, respiratory issues, joint replacements, spine surgery, diabetes, bariatric surgery, and behavioral health
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, with a higher ratio of 1:7-8 during critical surge periods
- Shifts are 12 hours, , with weekend rotation every other weekend
- No on-call or call back requirements
- Travelers are required to float within region 3 facilities, including Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH), per regional needs and scope of practice
- Epic EMR system is used; experience with Epic is preferred
- Specialized equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Will be assigned a home unit following orientation
- Daily duties include managing a diverse Med/Surg Tele caseload and administering complex medication therapies
- Interdisciplinary support team includes CNA, receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and ICU intensivist
- No telemetry techs assigned to these units
- Orientation includes facility NEO and two days departmental training
- Scrub color requirement is navy
- Free parking is provided
- Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; RTO must be added to the contract if needed
- Travelers will work 75% of holidays per schedule cycle
- First-time travelers may be considered but are not preferred
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 18 months recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Ortho experience and spinal precautions required for Ortho-Surgical units
- Experience with stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, IV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain management, PCA pumps, and cardiac medication drips
- Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the assigned facility
