Job DescriptionTitle: Triage Nurse
Reports to: Clinical Nurse Supervisor
Status: Full-time
We are seeking two Triage Nurses for our clinics! The first position will work primarily at our University Clinic and will float as needed. The second position will work primarily at our West Clinic and will also float as needed.
Charlotte Community Health Clinic offers high-quality medical, dental, and behavioral health services for children and adults. We work towards a healthy community where all individuals, regardless of ability to pay, have access to comprehensive health care. This position will assess patients, determine the urgency of their condition, and direct them to the appropriate area according to their needs. The triage nurse will also assist with wound care, etc.

- Shares patient information with provider to facilitate care evaluations and updates data in the medical record; accepts direction from provider; makes patient referrals as directed by the provider.
- Reviews orders for clarity and appropriateness; gathers information, reviews past allergic reactions.
- Administers medications and treatments within scope of practice, uses approved policies/procedures/protocols.
- Uses problem solving skills to identify and work through issues.
- Displays critical thinking skills to determine appropriate care; considers patient/family cultural differences and incorporates into patient care.
- Identifies patient learning needs and provides education and counsel to patients; documents patient understanding.
- Knows growth and development of individual’s life stages; facilitates care provided is consistent with policies, procedures and telephone triage protocols.
- Able to function in emergency situations and facilitates the care provided for all patients.
- Facilitates quality of patient care; serves as an advocate for the patient; maintains all appropriate licensure.
- Understands and follows HIPAA guidelines and ensures the confidentiality of patient results.
- Ensures all test results, in-house and referred, are reported to the provider by checking a manifest or providing oversight of pending labs.
- Able to perform CLIA waived tests.
- Other duties as assigned.
Able to communicate effectively; interacts in a friendly, professional manner with a wide range of staff, physicians and public. Plans, prioritizes and completes delegated tasks with attention to detail. Ability to multitask and work well under pressure. Requires excellent organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to function as part of a team.
Comprehensive knowledge of Accounting procedures and principles. Ethical behavior when dealing with sensitive financial information. High level of accuracy and efficiency. Courteous, professional manner, strong customer service skills.
1-2 years in a physician practice or community-based health assignment preferred.
