Registered Nurse Weekender Program
Location: Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, Charlotte, NC – Med/Surg Unit 10P Pediatrics
Schedule: 7 pm – 7 am Saturdays and Sundays (24 hours per week)
Pay Range: $34.90 – $52.35 per hour
Unit Overview: 24‑bed inpatient floor caring for patients 0‑18 years with neurosurgical, trauma, orthopedic, and cystic fibrosis diagnoses. This unit has earned the Daisy Team award and is a Magnet program provider.
Major Responsibilities- Engage in unit councils, professional governance, and quality initiatives to improve care processes and implement evidence‑based practices.
- Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care from admission to post‑discharge, engaging patients and families.
- Monitor patient conditions, adjust care plans, mobilize resources, and collaborate with the care team to influence outcomes.
- Uphold and promote a culture of safety.
- Continuously evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes, taking action as needed.
- Administer medications, treatments, and therapies safely in accordance with protocols.
- Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution to foster team collaboration and appropriate delegation.
- Pursue professional development, complete required education, and maintain certifications.
- Adhere to the ANA Code of Ethics and practice ethical decision‑making, respecting interdisciplinary roles.
- Delegate appropriately to RNs, LPNs, nurse assistants, and other unlicensed assistive personnel.
- Maintain accurate, timely EHR documentation.
- Float to other units, departments, or facilities within the designated service area as needed.
- Provide age‑appropriate care and apply growth‑and‑development knowledge to each patient’s needs.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Active, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) license in North Carolina (or multi‑state compact). Must have privileges to practice in the state where service is provided.
- Graduation from a board‑approved nursing program.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum of 6 months RN experience (new graduates are not eligible).
- Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking.
- Time management, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in computer functions (E‑mail, EHR, digital platforms).
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist throughout the workday.
- Lift and support up to 35 lb; perform a sliding transfer of 150 lb with a second person present.
- Use fine hand manipulation for IV insertion and other procedures.
- Operate foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Perform safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de‑escalation if needed.
- Wear protective clothing and equipment for exposure to hazardous waste, blood, and body fluids.
- Respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions.
- Physical testing may be required.
- Base hourly rate within the given range.
