Overview
The Community Engagement Resident advances Mercy Church’s mission by fostering meaningful community connections and supporting initiatives that meet practical needs, strengthen partnerships, and create opportunities for Mercy members to live out the gospel.
Residency Responsibilities- Residency Cohort
- Attending all required residency cohorts (bi-weekly, except during the summer).
- Completing all required assignments, readings, and writing assignments.
- Working alongside other residents to complete final projects once a semester.
- Support-Raising
- Maintaining a healthy support raising status
- 75% is required to do part-time work with their ministry team.
- 90% is required to do full-time work with their ministry team.
- Maintaining the relationship with their support team through monthly support updates.
- Development and Discernment
- Constantly learning and helping lead alongside their direct supervisor in their designated ministry.
- Committing to being developed, evaluated, and receiving regular feedback.
- Create and regularly update a personal growth plan.
- Community Partnership Development
- Assist in cultivating and maintaining relationships with local schools, nonprofits, and community organizations.
- Observe and learn best practices for partnership communication, collaboration, and care.
- Event & Initiative Support
- Help plan, organize, and execute community engagement initiatives such as coat drives, serve days, and outreach events.
- Support project logistics, volunteer coordination, and communication.
- Capture stories and feedback to celebrate impact and improve future initiatives.
- Volunteer Engagement & Mobilization
- Assist with recruiting, equipping, and encouraging Mercy members/attenders to serve locally.
- Help support partner leads to train site host for various service projects.
- Contribute to fostering a culture of gospel-driven compassion and service across Mercy campuses.
- Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain accurate records of partnerships, events, and volunteer participation.
- Assist with communication, scheduling, and coordination for community initiatives.
- Support the Pastor of Community Engagement with strategy, reporting, and planning tasks.
- Spiritual & Leadership Development
- Participate in Mercy’s residency development plan, including spiritual formation, leadership training, and mentorship.
- Contribute to staff meetings, team rhythms, and cross-ministry collaboration.
- Model Christlike humility and service in all interactions—inside and outside the church.
- A Mercy Church Resident should be teachable and always exhibit professionalism, conscientious work ethic, and accountability.
- A Mercy Church Resident needs to be willing and able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, with composure and flexibility.
The hours for this position are expected to be approximately 40 hours per week. As one church that meets in several locations, there are several times throughout the year that Mercy Church holds church-wide events in order to do whatever it takes to reach all people. All staff members are expected to serve at these church-wide events, regardless of the positions they hold.
Such events include, but are not limited to Easter services, Good Friday services, All-Church-Gathering, and Christmas services. Specific expectations will be communicated in advance of each event.
