About this role

Carrier’s manufacturing site in Charlotte NC, is seeking a skilled ME Tech/Weld Trainer to join our team. This hybrid position is critical to elevating welding skills, reducing leaks and turnbacks, and ensuring code compliance in weld fabrication while supporting manufacturing engineering initiatives. The role combines technical training leadership with hands‑on process improvement responsibilities. Beyond technical skill, the ME Tech/Weld Trainer serves as a steward of safety, ensuring all machinery is operational and all safety standards are met without compromise.

Key Responsibilities Training & Skill Development
  • Own onboarding, upskilling, and certification of weld and brazing technicians across first and second shifts.
  • Build and deliver weld onboarding and refresher courses for CHVAC welding (focus: MIG/GMAW).
  • Teach 2G/6G pipe fundamentals, pipe fitting techniques, and test preparation using internal curriculum.
  • Train new welders on accessing drawings, standards, and proper interpretation.
  • Administer practical evaluations, skills matrices, and stamp qualifications; maintain WPQ/WPQR and WPS records per ASME Section IX and site QA procedures.
  • Document, teach, and audit standard work; reinforce safety (PPE, LOTO, ventilation), quality checks, and correct gauge/tool usage.
  • Partner with ME/QE to analyze leak/burst data, identify root causes, and embed best practices; schedule targeted refreshers where gaps exist.
  • Plan training cadence that supports production schedules; flex coverage for first/second shift and occasional weekends.
Manufacturing Engineering Support
  • Develop and maintain standard work instructions for assembly and brazing operations.
  • Support implementation of lean manufacturing principles and 5S on the shop floor.
  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain production equipment and tooling for HVAC components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime.
  • Conduct cycle time studies and collect data for capacity analysis.
  • Recommend process improvements to meet output targets for XR7 and DV platforms.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of hands‑on welding experience (including 6G certification).
  • 5+ years in industrial/commercial welding; strong pipe and sheet metal experience.
  • Physical ability to work and weld in awkward positions such as, kneeling, lying down and overhead, and climb & work from a ladder and lift up to 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Carrier operations preferred
  • Proficiency in GMAW/MIG for stainless and carbon steel.
  • Experience qualifying welders to ASME Section IX (WPS, PQR, WPQ); AWS familiarity a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, WPS, and gauge settings.
  • Fabrication and modification of existing parts for rework
  • Proven ability to build curricula, teach hands‑on, and evaluate practical skills.
  • Experience training peers on production lines or in classroom settings.
  • Knowledge of multiple welding operations on the line.
  • Familiarity with Cx (Operational Excellence) tools, lean principles, and problem‑solving techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience with 5S programs.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to work in diverse international environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Additional certifications and credentials from external organizations desirable.
