Job Summary

Manage manufacturing shop operations including establishing and managing shop schedule, managing shop assets and materials, managing shop quality, and maintaining a work environment that promotes productivity and good morale.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

I. Manage shop schedule

  • Responsible for fabrication plans and construction coordination.
  • Coordinate with engineering and project management to maintain steady workflow.
  • Meet budgetary goals, delivery deadlines and quality standards.
  • Weekly manufacturing scheduling updated by 4 pm every Friday.
  • Track material roundup for each project and identify/report missing items to purchasing and project managers in a weekly report.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to ensure delivery targets are achieved to maintain production schedule.

II. Manage shop assets and commodity materials

  • Organize and keep tidy the shop area and warehouse.
  • Maintain company hardware including, but not limited to Shop tools.
  • Monitor and restock consumable goods including, but not limited to: wire, wire duct, labels, cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Compose list of commonly used components to Purchasing Department to identify opportunities for stocking frequently used panel components.
  • Provide feedback on vendor material supply and quality to project management.
  • Help specify new company gear and manufacturing tools.

III. Manage shop quality

  • Ensure fabrication team follows required UL standards and company dictated practices as related to control panel design.
  • Fabricate enclosures as directed by engineering supplied drawings.
  • Exhibit proficiency in enclosure modification for mounting hardware and instrumentation.
  • Responsible for the management, planning and directing of field activities, monitoring field installation status, work with other field personnel to deliver end solutions and maintain customer relations.
  • Fluently read and interpret all types of shop drawings and provide mark ups to develop as-built documentation.
  • Provide feedback to engineering to improve quality of deliverables or reduce manufacturing cost.
  • Serves as an Interface between shop staff and engineering QC manager.

IV. Leadership, Management and Accountability

  • Oversee and manage 3-4 fabrication team members.
  • Exhibit leadership abilities to coordinate group work activities.
  • Maintain and adhere to safety policies and procedures to ensure safe work environment.
  • Enforce accurate time reporting from team members for each project.
  • Provide counseling to fabrication team members with regards to performance issues and concerns.
  • Develop training schedules to continuously grow the team’s capabilities.
Qualifications

Required

Basic Skills:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • 5 Year panel manufacturing experience.
  • Understanding of electrical symbols and wiring diagrams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Works well with dynamically changing agenda with tasks of varying difficulty and urgency.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Well-spoken and works well with others.

Education:

  • High School/Equivalent degree.
  • Management training.

Required Software Proficiencies:

  • Microsoft Office Packages.
  • Adobe Acrobat.

Optional/Favorable

Skills:

  • Pipe bending/fitting.
  • NEC Area Classifications.
  • UL508/UL508 Procedures.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand/power tools, computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices.
  • Physically able to travel to job sites to perform panel installation or modifications, assist in the startup of panel and instrumentation systems.
  • Project start-ups may require extended travel to job sites.
  • Extended hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines. This may include weekdays, weekends or holidays. May be assigned to work at a Client’s facility or site for an extended period of time.
  • While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
