Job Overview
The Mail Operations Specialist I position performs a variety of operational, maintenance, training, and related mailing responsibilities in a high-volume, diverse product mailing environment.
Responsibilities- Exercise responsibility for proper preparation of assigned mailings, utilizing extensive knowledge of and in accordance with United States Postal Service (USPS) and Distribution Services procedures.
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot a variety of mailing equipment, and train individuals in its operation.
- Train individuals in basic operation of mail operations equipment such as Oliver Polywrapper and Pinnacle inserter.
- Handle multiple operational issues related to materials, equipment, mechanical, and staff.
- Communicate essential information, work progress, and concerns in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate initiative in seeking knowledge and training in equipment operation and departmental procedures.
- Assist co-workers in completion of assignments.
- Make creative, practical recommendations regarding improvement to efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of mailing processes.
- Switch jobs, as directed, while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
- Assist in fulfilling orders as assigned.
- Safely operate industrial trucks in close quarters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school education or equivalent and at least one (1) year in a commercial mailing operations environment.
- Experience operating mailing equipment such as Bell & Howell inserters, printers, wrapping equipment, and cutters.
- Prior experience in production and fulfillment environment preferred.
- Ability to learn and follow lines of communication and authority.
- Strong interpersonal and computer skills (Word, Excel).
- Proficiency in applying USPS and Distribution procedures.
- Good hand/eye coordination, ability to lift up to 70 pounds to shoulder level occasionally.
- Ability to work productively, report for work punctually, and make quick decisions.
- Fast-paced production environment.
- Conditions of pressure and stress.
- Move from station to station during workday.
- Lift up to 70 pounds to shoulder level occasionally, and up to 40 pounds to shoulder level frequently.
- Primarily in a mail processing and distribution environment.
- Operation of mechanical lift equipment required.
- Extended daily, weekly, or weekend hours may be required.
