Overview

Responsibilities The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Student Affairs, Compliance, and Student Conduct at Johnson

C. Smith University holds a critical leadership role, directly reporting to the Senior Vice President for Strategic Enrollment and Retention Management. This executive oversees the strategic direction, policy development, and implementation within the student affairs, compliance, and student conduct areas, ensuring they align with the university's mission and strategic objectives. Key responsibilities include fostering an inclusive, safe, and supportive campus environment, with a strong emphasis on upholding student welfare and promoting equity across all student interactions.

Additionally, the AVP acts as the Title IX Coordinator, overseeing the university’s compliance with Title IX regulations aimed at preventing sex discrimination, including handling of sexual harassment and assault allegations. This role supervises the Dean of Students and the Director of ADA Compliance and Accommodations, coordinating efforts to maintain compliance and advocate for student rights. The position demands robust knowledge of educational regulations and a proactive leadership style to effectively support and advance the university's commitment to a respectful and dignified academic community.

Qualifications
  • Required:

    Master’s degree in Education, Student Affairs, or a related field. A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in higher education student affairs, with proven experience in compliance and conduct issues. Must have primary ownership and demonstrated Title IX experience, such as serving as a Title IX Coordinator or Deputy/Lead Administrator, directly managing Title IX investigations, resolutions, and grievance processes;

    overseeing compliance with Title IX regulations and institutional policies; and coordinating training, reporting, and case management responsibilities.
  • Preferred:
    Doctoral degree. Experience in managing complex student affairs operations and leading diverse teams. Demonstrated understanding of ADA and other relevant laws.

    Strong leadership and organizational skills.

    Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders across the institution.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to write and implement strategic policy initiatives.
