Position: Manager - Occupational Health & Safety
Department: Venue Operations – Security Reports To: Director – Safety & Security FLSA Status: Full Time (Exempt)
Position SummaryThe Manager of Occupational Health & Safety is responsible for overseeing and managing the health and safety programs across various operational areas, ensuring compliance with federal, state (North Carolina), and local regulations, including OSHA standards. This role focuses on employee safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and promoting safe practices within stadium events, office spaces, parking areas, construction zones, temporary stage erection, and specialized areas like sports field maintenance and other operations involving chemicals.
PrimaryResponsibilities
Regulatory Compliance (Federal, OSHA, State of North Carolina):
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, state-specific safety laws (including North Carolina regulations), and federal safety regulations.
- Stay informed on updates to safety laws, regulations, and best practices, and communicate these changes to relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure organizational compliance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Stadium Events & Live Event Safety:
- Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety protocols for stadium events to ensure the safety of staff, athletes, contractors, and spectators.
- Collaborate with event organizers, vendors, and local authorities to address potential risks related to crowd control, emergency evacuation plans, fire safety, and first-aid measures.
- Conduct safety drills for large-scale events to ensure preparedness for emergencies.
Office Space Safety:
- Oversee the safety protocols for office spaces, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and North Carolina safety laws.
- Regularly inspect office facilities for potential hazards (e.g., ergonomics, fire safety, emergency exits) and ensure necessary corrective actions are taken.
- Provide safety training programs to employees, promoting awareness and emergency preparedness.
Parking Area Safety:
- Implement and monitor safety measures in parking areas to ensure safe traffic flow, clear signage, and pedestrian safety.
- Conduct regular inspections of parking lots to identify hazards such as inadequate lighting or blocked emergency exits, and ensure necessary corrective actions are taken.
Construction Zone Safety:
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during construction and renovation projects, including adherence to OSHA standards and state regulations.
- Work with contractors and construction managers to assess risks, implement safety measures, and ensure that workers follow safe practices.
- Perform site inspections and provide corrective actions when necessary to prevent accidents or injuries.
Stage Construction & Temporary Structure Safety:
- Oversee safety measures for temporary structures, including stages and rigging, used for live events, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.
- Collaborate with event production teams to assess risks and ensure safe erection, assembly, and disassembly procedures are followed.
- Ensure all temporary structures meet load-bearing and stability requirements, and proper rigging practices are adhered to.
Safe Chemical Handling for Sports Fields Maintenance & Laundry Operations:
- Develop and enforce safe chemical handling protocols for sports field maintenance, including the proper storage, usage, and disposal of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides.
- Ensure employees working with chemicals are trained in the safe handling and application of substances and provide proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Create procedures for chemical spill response and decontamination, ensuring safety for workers and the environment.
- Oversee chemical safety practices in laundry operations, ensuring safe handling of detergents, bleaches, and other cleaning chemicals.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure that chemical safety protocols are followed and provide corrective actions as needed.
