Position OverviewThe Project Manager carries responsibility for overall success on assigned construction projects. To be successful in this role, an individual must maintain a high level of daily communication and engagement with key subcontractors, the field leadership team and customer, be an excellent problem solver, demonstrate extreme ownership of all elements of a project, and live out FHG’s core values of Integrity, Servant Mindset, Excellence, and Safety.
An individual will not progress or succeed at FHG without demonstrating these core values.
A key attribute for a PM in Major Projects is being proactive. The PM is responsible to assist with initial project development and bid, and support project execution through site commissioning. The PM is responsible to fully understand and define customer expectations and communicate these clearly to our subcontractors and field team. Any time customer expectations are not met, the PM is expected to take ownership and work tirelessly to rectify the situation.
This position will be part of FHG’s Major Projects Division which is focused completing construction projects utilizing a general contracting model. Project revenue size will typically be $5 million or greater.
The following description has been designed to indicate the general nature and essential responsibilities of work performed in this position. It is not a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.
- Manage one or more construction jobs at a time. Jobs can range from one month to over one year in duration and from $1 million to $20 million or more. Manage an average of $10-$25 million in revenue per year.
- Be responsible for managing the overall profit and loss of all assigned jobs.
- Provide estimates and bids on new work.
- Develop clear subcontractor scopes and execute comprehensive subcontracts.
- Procure job-related materials and equipment.
- Ability to address problems with seasoned field employees in a productive manner.
- Communicate subcontractor scope and expectations such that field personnel can effectively lead execution of work.
- Track the subcontractor and FHG field team progress and ensure that schedule and budget goals are met.
- Manage subcontractors and ensure they maintain the standards of FHG and our customers.
- Negotiate scope change requirements and compensation with customers.
- Establish and build relationships with customers.
- Maintain accurate and timely cost accounting, forecasting, and invoicing on all jobs managed.
- Be familiar with and promote FHG and customer safety policies and procedures.
- 4-year engineering or construction management degree with at least 1 year of relevant project management experience, or at least 5 years of relevant project management experience.
- Strong, clear communication skills. Confident in interactions with field employees and client representatives.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and a strong multi-tasker.
- Experience with travel.
- Experience managing energy construction project with revenue of $5 million or greater is preferable, but not required.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and other documents.
- Proficient with scheduling software.
- Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
